Supporting Australians Auslan factsheet video
The Australian Government is providing more support to Australians.
This means Australians will receive tax cuts, energy bill relief and student loan relief.
Tax cuts
New individual income tax rates and thresholds mean that from 1 July 2024, all taxpayers in Australia received a tax cut.
For most taxpayers, your tax cut will be reflected in your take-home pay each payday.
Some taxpayers will receive their tax cut when their tax return is lodged and processed.
These tax cuts do not impact your 2023-24 tax return.
Energy Bill Relief
Australian households and eligible small businesses are receiving credits on their electricity bills over the 2024-2025 financial year.
Households will receive up to $300 in electricity bill credits and eligible small businesses will receive up to $325.
In most cases, it appears as a line item on your bill.
The timing of the credits may be different depending on your state or territory.
If you live in an embedded network, like a caravan park, retirement village or apartment, or have a small business located in a shopping centre, you may have to apply for energy bill relief.
If your house is connected to the grid and powered by solar panels or batteries, and you have a positive account balance, you will still receive a credit on your account.
Student loan relief
The Australian Government has made a change to student loans, so that Australians with an existing loan pay less overall.
This change will affect how indexation is calculated for Australian Government student loans.
The Australian Taxation Office (ATO) will automatically apply the change to all existing student loans.
